The Deptartment of Industrial Engineering is one the three departments of Faculty of Engineering at the University of Salerno. It was established in 2011 by merging into a single department researchers from Department of Chemical and Food Engineering, Department of Mechanical -Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Civil Engineering. UNISA has extensive experience in preparation of oxide-based catalysts, supported or in bulk, either in powder or structured in the form of honeycomb monoliths or ceramic cell foams.
Furthermore, a wide experience concerning the testing of these catalytic systems on both laboratory and pre-pilot scales characterises this research group. In particular, over the last years UNISA has developed an integrated system able to produce up to 5 Nm3/h of H2 based on a methane ATR reactor followed by a water gas shift stage for preliminary CO conversion, both operated with structured catalysts.
The research group coordinated by Prof. Palma has several skills in the field of preparation and characterisation of catalysts. In particular, catalysts characterisation will be carried out through several techniques, including Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Specific Surface Area measurement (N2 adsorption), MicroRaman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR), Temperature Programmed Desorption (TPD), Temperature Programmed Oxidation (TPO).
The team will develop their tasks and activities of the project using the infrastructure of the Department of Industrial Engineering equipped with laboratories able to perform catalytic activity tests in various reactions, such as Methane steam reforming, Auto-Thermal reforming, Bio-Ethanol Steam reforming.
The research facilities of PROCEED research group coordinated by Prof. Vincenzo Palma consist of three different laboratories equipped with gas analysers, mass-spectrometers, XRF analyser, XRD analyser, Hg porosimeter, N2 adsorption equipment for Surface area measurement and various plants to perform several reactions. Furthermore, SEM-EDX and TEM for microscopy analysis are also available.
All the research facilities are wholly independent from other beneficiaries and/or partner organisations in the consortium.
